Ripped Up Denim for the Sweltering Heat

Perhaps I should have have worn linen for our outing in the 92 degree weather. It was 7:30 p.m. and it was a sauna outside. With my hubby and teens away at youth camp, I thought I'd take advantage and go see my brother. He recently transferred from Washington state to Georgia, so we can actually hop in the car and visit. Upon our arrival we learned that my sister-in-law, J, fell down the front porch steps and sprained her ankle, so we enjoyed our first day by relaxing by the pool and letting the boys play. By the next evening, she felt ready to get out (she doesn't like to be still for long!) so we went to downtown Columbus.

It may have been hot, but at least my shorts were ventilated! This may come as a shocker, but I cut these shorts off myself. HA! They look 100% like a DIY, but I love them. I cut them off in 2013. See...

And look how big these guys have gotten!!!

I miss that sweet cuddly stage with the twins, but I don't miss the Bermuda, boring style of the shorts. I love the authentically distressed, worn out look that these cutoffs have attained. They hang on me and I wouldn't try to dress them up, but they worked for an ice cream outing and walking around the square.

I layered the top, from Altar'd State, with a cami because it's too low cut for my liking. However, I bet a barrette would be cute as well. The sandals are my most worn and the jewelry picks were a quick grabbing from my organized collection of gold metals. I had a little fun with my wrap bracelet by making it into a choker to layer with my pendant necklace.

Outfit Breakdown:
Top Altar'd State: (On Sale!)/Sandals: Clothes Mentor (Cute Option)/Shades: Maui Jim (Costco DEAL!)/Jewelry: Premier Designs/Purse: My 31

I close with just a few pics from our adventures thus far!

Have a fabulous day my reader friends!

  1. You were just down the street from me. Well, kinda. I live in Leesburg {near Albany}. I'm so digging your "ventilated" cutoffs. I've been thinking about adding some extra shred to my cutoffs. I like the worn out look.

    1. Daenel, my biggest thrill in blogging has been and continues to be the ladies I meet along the way via cyberspace. I met Nicole from High Latitude Style, while visiting my sister in Alaska. That was the neatest mini-adventure. Maybe next time I visit I meet another blogger? ;) Share pic if you end up adding extra shed to your cutoffs. And thank you for commenting!

    1. Thank you Nicole! Those are my favorite pair of earrings. The ice cream was delicious, but it's hard to pass up FREE so it's back to the cupcakes this week. :)
