Shop Your Closet For Valentine's Attire: Starting With Atypical

When I think of Valentine's attire I imagine vivid reds, soft pinks, and of course hearts - not so much blues and certainly not camoflouage. However, when your closet is your most shopped store, you go with what you have and get creative - even if it is blue! This is how the Blue heart sweater from the Limited becomes my inspiration for an atypical outfit to wear for the Valentine "season". How did I end up with camo and a hat? Come on, I'll tell you all about it.

Adorned in my camo dress and leggings, I reach for my burgundy pants to pair with the sweater when another idea occurred to me.  Why not layer the sweater with the dress and leggings? Even better. I don't have to change.

"Hmmm. I think I like this."

And that's how out of the ordinary is usually born for me. Once the basics are completed it's a matter of playing around in accessories. When I shop my closet more, I realize there's neglected, or even unworn, accessories waiting to shine! Such was the case with my fedora from the GAP. At a mere $6 I couldn't resist adding it to my growing hat collection. And can one wear a straw hat in the winter? Maybe not everywhere, but I'll certainly go for it here in Florida!

Anyway, there's days when I'm over "shopping my closet", especially when I think about how much money I spend on groceries (Seriously boys!!), but the next big sale will be here before I know it, right? Until then, I'll be creative!

Ok, I'll add a few links for some camo dresses, etc at the end of the post, but before I close allow me to share why I went from "nah to yeah" for celebrating Valentine's Day.

In the past I haven't put much effort into celebrating Valentine's day with my hubby or my boys, but I'm currently looking for opportunities to celebrate life with them. Time is short. My oldest turned 17 this week for goodness sake! So this year I plan on wearing hearts, hanging hearts, getting extra candy, buying festive plates, posting notes etc to love on them. I can do this any day of the year, but my personality can use a prompt or a "deadline" to remind me to act on those feelings. If that means taking advantage of the commercialized "day of love" then so be it!

Well, my friend? What's it going to be this year? Typical or Atypical for Valentine's Day??

Thank you Blended Blog for the fun prompt!

  4. So cute Grace! I really like this outfit. It's unique and beautiful in its own right. The blue is a stunning color and can really rival a red. I know that it can be hard to shop our closets as I seem to always feel like I am missing something. Funny how IG kind of does that huh? Until the next sale! Lol

  12. I wish I could think outside the box and inside my closet!! What a darling outfit. You look so spunky and fun in it. I have a number of skirts, including a tulle skirt, that I may break out for Valentine's. Bought it last year for VD and then broke my foot and didn't feel like wearing it with a big ole UGLY boot on my foot!
