Drawstring Tencel Shorts & Aquarium Outfits

Hello my friends! Today I'm introducing another clearance find: TENCEL drawstring shorts from the GAP! I had no intention of adding more draw string shorts to my closet but the softness of the material called to me. I've not had the best of luck with drawstring shorts, yet this pair came home with me. They are so comfortable, but I question how flattering they are on my build. What do you think?

Nagging doubts aside, these shorts are on repeat, firstly to the Mote Marine Labs Aquarium and then all over the town! Speaking of the aquarium, I lost count of our visits since we moved here but I thought it would be fun to share a few outfits from a few of them. In addition to outfits, I'll close with a few reasons why I think everyone can benefit from being a member - somewhere! ;)

The TENCEL Shorts
What is tencel anyway? I had to look it up. The quick answer is Tencel is a trademarked, sustainably sourced material that can be combined with other materials for added breathability, longer lasting softness, gentleness to the skin, etc. Admittedly, that is about as much as my curiosity needed for satisfaction! I can confirm the softness. Time will confirm their durability, especially considering my frequency of wearing them!

These shorts are also on repeat around here! And of course they are on sale right now!

Homeschool educational activity means we play the same but the boys are instructed to pick their favorite of the day and write about it!

Alright my friends, there's my fashion and aquarium visits recap. Now for why everyone would benefit from a local membership to a museum, zoo, aquarium, etc!

Benefits of Purchasing a Membership
  • You support a local organization, rehabilitation, research, the arts, etc.
  • Educational for all ages
  • You get out and move around - the walking is good for us
  • Depending on your family size you get your money's worth in the first visit!
  • Something to do when you've run out of somethings to do. When we need to get out, this is almost always an option with no extra spending.
  • Discounts to other participating establishments. We were able to visit Selby Gardens for free in the month of September b/c of our aquarium passes.
  • Tickets for out of town guests. I've taken family, friends and even dropped off my eldest with a few of his friends. We've received our investment back and more!
  • Date outing. Some places have cafes so you could make it a meal and more. ;)
How about you? Are you a member somewhere and do you have reasons to add to my accumulating list?

  1. Those drawstring shorts are so cute on you! Loving all of your aquarium outfits, especially the camo dress! We were members of the aquarium and art institute when we lived in the city. It was worth it for the free tickets for the special exhibits!

  10. I really like those shorts on you! I have a pair of drawstring tencel shorts in olive and they are a staple - they get worn year after year! You definitely won't have any wear issues with these! :)

The aquarium looks so fun too! My boys love our local Sea World theme park and getting to see all the animals, but we haven't bought them season passes yet. I'd like to one Christmas!

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend :)

  11. So many great photos AND great outfits, Chrissy! I remember when I was first introduced to Tencel (23 years ago...my first job out of college was manager at Talbots and Tencel was like the new thing in fabrics!) It is super soft and breathable and I love the way it hangs so beautifully. I think these shorts are quite flattering on you, by the way. And I am loving you in boyfriend jeans! So cute. And your camo dress and your graphic tank top. All so perfect. I want to see inside your closet!

What a fun day at the aquarium, too. We do not have one any where near us but I think my boys would love it. Must add to our list of things to get to!

  12. Your outfits are all so cute and those shorts would be perfect for lake life. Also the camo dress is adorable. I love supporting something local and in the past we've had both children's museum and zoo family memberships. We are now gone so much of the summer so our zoo one isn't worth it but now that the children's museum is recipe Ed we are totally going to support.
