What I Wore: High Waisted Dreams from WHBM

I've stayed away from the high-waisted jeans trend, that is until now. I swore them off, though I should know better to swear off anything until I've tried it. However, when WHBM reached out to collaborate, I saw this pair of lightly distressed high-rise denim I had to try them. And I'm happy to report they fit like a dream. Today I styled them two ways, bringing back last week's top!

What makes these jeans special is the stretchy material that WHBM does so well. Instead of feeling compacted, I feel supported. In both looks I feature a half tuck, though I have worn a shirt completely tucked in. I'm surprised to say that I liked that as well.

What I Wore: WHBM Denim and More

Do you shop at WHBM? When I lived in Georgia I frequented their seasonal sales. Their denim was my favorite. Why wouldn't it be? Soft and stretchy in all the right places with unique cuts and designs for a confident approach to the "what am I going to wear today?" question. However, when we moved to Florida, the storefront was no longer around my usual stops. I missed my sale hunts! So you can bet when WHBM reached out for an opportunity to share some of their pieces, I excitedly accepted! Today's post features three of those pieces!

The 5x5 Style Challenge: Part 1

Hi! Today I'm sharing half of my first ever 5x5 style challenge! If you're accustomed to capsule wardrobes and lean towards organization in most things, a challenge likes this may be child's play for you. However, as a last-minute-spontaneous-hotmess there's a modicum of emotional danger in challenges such as these. Then I saw Ruth from My Little Nest inviting others to join her and her blogging friends in the Instagram challenge so I decided to reach out to her for more details. Why not??  It was a rainy evening and I had some free time. How hard could it be??

Today Is A Flowy Shirt Day, A Sale Round Up & Nail Drama

Hello my sweets. Today I'm unloading a little style, a thirst for sales and a little "drama", so hang on.  The story begins with temperatures reaching the mid to high 60s. I feel like Cinderella being awakened by the song of chirping birds, beckoning me to leave the dream world. And just like Cinderella there's little time for relaxing in bed. My feet hit the floor and I outwardly groan in protest. Coffee calls and I answer. Before long it's time to get dressed begin the day.

Camo For NYE & The Holiday Series

This may be the only dance move I know, but I plan on using it and using it well come NYE! Or maybe not. Maybe I'll be a total bum and watch the peach drop (Georgia here) from the comfort of my living room. Some years I've been known to fall asleep before midnight (gasp!!). What can I say? I'm an early riser so I wind down fairly quickly. However, this year I plan on going the distance as I think of the rest of you fine people counting down with me!

The September Issue: Ten Fall Wedding Looks

Hello! Once again I'm thrilled to be collaborating with, Ada from Elegance and Mommyhood, and several other bloggers to bring you another edition of the September Issue: What to Wear to A Fall Wedding. If you missed the first issue on styling white dresses after Labor Day, just click here!

I must admit that I ended up going in a completely different direction that I originally intended.  However, I'm a little giddy over the results. You know I dig these adidas shoes. We're like peas and carrots. Mash potatoes and butter. Sweet potato and cinnamon. Collagen powder and coffee. What? I thought I'd make a few up of my own.  ;)

Honestly, I woke up one morning with thoughts of my adidas sneaks styled with this dress rolling around my brain. How's that for getting the day started? Sheesh. Just the same, early morning ideas are usually my best, so without testing the theory out, I packed up this outfit and met my sweet friend Rachel for some pictures later that evening.

Now I know some folks may be cringing at the thought of showing up to a friend's wedding in fashion sneakers. I get it! I would say, know your bride. Rachael is getting married in March and said she would welcome me in this garb. So Rachael my dear, you may see this outfit again. ;)
And if you're still cringing grab those heels and you're ready to go! Just remember to pack the sneaks for the dance floor. You know you're going to chuck those heels off before long.

Can you tell that I love the pockets on this dress?? That's how I walked around the town for the entire evening. Before we knew it, twilight was upon us (where's Edward?? - bad joke I know.) and we had little time left for picture taking fun. I'm just glad we found this fun spot on the square in Duluth!

As far as the leather jacket goes, in the south we never know if it's going to be a hot one or if our teeth will be chattering and our backs clenched in protest from a sneaky night chill.

Outfit Breakdown: Jacket: Michael Kors (Macy's Option 1, Nancy's Fashion Style)/Striped Dress: White House Black Market (Fun Option, Similar With Pockets!) /Adidas (Rack Room shoes)/Layered : Clutch: Aveda Gift/Necklaces: Premier Designs Jewelry: (Dressed to Thrill Long Chain, Daring Choker and 2nd Layer)

Confession: Glam is a struggle for me. Instead of looking like a princess when I'm all dressed up, I feel more self-conscious. Any one else? For me the extra makeup accentuates that which I'd rather mask, so other than eye fun, I stay as natural as possible. Permit me to restate: know your bride and know your venue. That makes all the difference. And be sure to check out the other 9 bloggers and their fabulous wedding outfits!

Quick Story From Our Night in Duluth

Well my friends, I close with thoughts of sweet Rachael and our final moments of this incredibly fun adventure. These moments take us back to the food truck. It was getting late and all the food trucks were getting ready to pack up. After walking through our options once more, we decide on what appears to be legit mediterranean. One whiff of the aroma and it's confirmed...

"Two gyros please."

"We are out of the fries that go with that. You can have Lays potato chips instead." (Oh boy.)

"Well. Ok."

While waiting on our food we occupied ourselves by snapping a few pictures together.  It wasn't long before the Peace of Pita owner offered to take our picture for us. How nice!

My name is called. We walk up and grab our paper trays. Boy, those tantalizing gyros look good and my mouth begins to water.  But those Lays potato chips just don't seem right.

Downcast and disappointed we exchange looks.

"Want me to ask if they will substitute a small side of the hummus instead of these chips??"

I approach the window.

Um. Excuse me, but would it be possible to exchange this bag of Lays for a small side of your homemade hummus?

Awkward pause.

He checks with the manager. The very same manager who snapped our picture.

Bam! It was delicious. Thank you Peace of Pita. We eat our food and catch up on life. I add this picture to my story and it isn't long before Rachel notices that we are on their IG page.

I hope you enjoyed this post and wedding edition of the September Issue. :)

Much love,

Chrissy

Burnout Tops & Lace

Hello! How is your summer going? Our summer is passing quickly as usual, only this year some of the business is full of trips to Atlanta.* While I neither enjoy traffic nor repeat trips to the gas station, I do enjoy the extra time spent with my fast growing buddies.

We make the best of our windshield time by playing Atlas (I need to study my maps more!) and sightseeing of course. As we cruise along in my fab minivan, a small level of excitement builds once varied structures and elaborate billboards come into view. Ah, the city.  If I were an adrenaline junky I would love the thrill and adventure that comes with changing lanes to exit. Too bad I'm not.  However, I do love learning my way around this popular city.

On our last trip we ventured to a location known as "The Goat Farm". I thought that was an interesting name for an office complex, but upon arrival I realized that it actually was a goat farm surrounded by old brick, warehouses. And those warehouses were not easy to find. The boys sat tensely as I blindly navigated through narrow, dirt roads while gripping the steering wheel and moaning at the unlikelihood of finding a studio at a crazy goat farm!  Twenty minutes, several turns and u-turns later, we finally found what we were looking for and parked in the gravel parking lot.

Dirt filled my heeled-sandals and made a home between my toes as I wobbled my way to our destination. Evan indignantly observed that I was putting holes in the ground with my heels. So sorry!

And so continued our adventure for the day...I am only sorry that I did not take pictures of the surrounding buildings. In fact, these pictures exist only because we ended up having to wait so long that I decided to take the younger two outside for a few minutes. Thus began their career as photographers...

Outfit Breakdown:

Burnout top: White/Black (last year)
Skirt: Wet Seal
Shoes: Nordstrom Rack (look for their clear the rack sales!)
Sunglasses: LOFT ($5)
Bag: Gift from friends

My adorable photographers...

*After our Disney commercial booking last year, the two older boys decided to look into opportunities for more commercial auditions, etc. We are praying for a booking! :) Hopefully more on this later...

What I Wore Link Up

Hello! As I begin my correspondence to cyberspace (and hopefully a few friends!), the fragrance of one single hyacinth flower permeates the entire sunroom. There are few flowers in our yard, but I'm so thankful for those perennials that know just what to do each year.

Yes, it's that time again! Time to get out in your yard and get to work! And boy do we have some work this year. I look forward to sharing before and after pictures of our post-construction-war-zone of a backyard, if not for anything else then to motivate me to get it done! :)

A little cooperation with the weather would help! The weather wasn't suitable to work in the yard this past weekend so what better time to start looking for clothes to keep the boys suitably dressed.

It definitely was not a kick back day, but why not let the clothes be??
